RYA Yachtmaster theory in Zurich or Laax without travelling abroad or sacrificing annual leave!
Next course: 6 Saturdays through winter 2018/19 – exact dates TBD
RYA Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore theory is an advanced course in seamanship, navigation and meteorology and is common to both sail and motor. The course is the same for both the MCA practical examinations, Yachtmaster Offshore and the renamed Yachtmaster Coastal (formerly Coastal Skipper), as well as for the non-examined RYA Coastal Skipper course.
Even if you are not planning to proceed to a practical Yachtmaster qualification, the theory course will stand you in good stead for all your water-based activities. Of course, full knowledge of the theory is indispensable if you are planning on taking the practical exam.
The syllabus includes a more in-depth handling of the subjects covered at Day Skipper level (advanced chartwork, tidal exercises (secondary ports etc.) and sound knowledge of the International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea (colregs), but has been completely overhauled and is now even more practically-oriented than ever with a great emphasis on doing what you would be doing to prepare for passages in real life.
NB This is an advanced course and decent practical experience is crucial. You are likely to struggle with this course if your practical experience is limited to Competent Crew and Day Skipper courses and we strongly recommend that you build up some chartering experience after Day Skipper (or equivalent) before considering this course. We reserve the right to reallocate you to a Day Skipper course if you do not yet have sufficient knowledge for Yachtmaster theory.
Sail YSL runs the RYA Yachtmaster Theory course as an intensive course over 6 days. Yachtmaster courses need a minimum of 3 people to run, but the maximum class size is limited to just 6 people to ensure more individual attention.
Upon successful completion of the course, you will be issued with an RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore shorebased course completion certificate. We can also supply a G158 log book for CHF 15.00 on request.
