RYA Day Skipper theory in Zurich without travelling abroad or sacrificing annual leave!
RYA Day Skipper Theory is a course in basic seamanship, navigation and meteorology. It is an essential precursor to the Day Skipper practical course and is common to both sail and motor.
The RYA Day Skipper qualification is increasingly becoming the minimum standard required to skipper a boat in the Mediterranean, either on flotilla or especially for bareboat charter, and it is not possible to pass the practical course without demonstrating knowledge of the subjects covered in the theory course.
These subjects include: seamanship, including terminology, ropework, safety, the International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea (colregs), navigation including chart familiarisation, use of chart instruments, the compass, position fixing, tides and tidal streams, passage planning, pilotage and basic meteorology.
Thanks for the very effective yet relaxed teaching method you employed to make us understand and assimilate so much in only 5 days. I truly enjoyed the learning and am now looking forward to doing the practical part of the Day Skipper certification.Tobias
In short, on completion of the Day Skipper Theory course you will possess the theoretical knowledge you need to navigate a small craft safely by day in familiar waters.
